People Bus Service Karachi BRT 13.0

The Sindh government has introduced a much-anticipated public transit service in Karachi known as the “Peoples Bus Service.” This initiative aims to enhance connectivity across the city by operating a fleet of centralized air-conditioned red buses on ten different routes, linking key residential areas with industrial and business centers.

Each bus has a seating capacity of approximately 40 passengers, with additional standing room for another 40 individuals. Notably, the service includes dedicated spaces for women, contributing to a more inclusive commuting environment. Furthermore, the fare structure is set at a fixed rate of PKR 50 per person per ride, ensuring affordability for users.

In its initial phase, the service has deployed 140 buses across five specific routes: Route 1 (Model Colony to Tower; 29.5 km), Route 2 (Nagan Chowrangi to Indus Hospital; 32.9 km), Route 3 (Five Star Chowrangi to Shaan Chowrangi; 33 km), Route 9 (Gulshan e Hadeed to Malir Cantt Check Post 6; 34 km), and Route 10 (Numaish Chowrangi to Sea View Clifton; 12 km). These buses operate from 7 AM to 10 PM, with peak hour frequencies of approximately 15 minutes between buses (from 8 AM to 10 AM and from 5 PM to 8 PM) and off-peak frequencies of about 30 minutes.

Looking ahead, the service plans to expand in its second phase with an additional 110 buses, bringing the total to 250 buses operating across all ten routes in Karachi.
